CALL TO ORDER:
Chairperson Marc Thomas called the January 2, 2008 Organizational Meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. Roll was called and all Commissioners were present, except Commissioners Copedge, De Leon and Tennis. Commissioner De Leon arrived at 6:09 and Commissioner Copedge arrived at 6:10 p.m.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
Ingham County Treasurer, Eric Schertzing, led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance and a few moments of silence were observed for meditation.
LIMITED PUBLIC COMMENT:
Ingham County Treasurer Schertzing updated the Board on the status of foreclosed homes and the tax-delinquent properties in Ingham County.
ELECTION OF OFFICERS:
Chairperson: Chairperson Thomas opened the floor for nominations to the position of Chairperson. Moved by Commissioner Grebner, supported by Commissioner Bahar-Cook to nominate Marc Thomas to the position of Chairperson. There were no other nominations. Moved by Commissioner Hertel to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot. Motion died due to lack of support. Motion to elect Marc Thomas to the position of Chairperson carried unanimously. Absent: Commissioner Tennis.
Vice-Chairperson: Chairperson Thomas opened the floor for nominations to the position of Vice-Chairperson. Moved by Commissioner Hertel, supported by Commissioner Grebner to nominate Commissioner Celentino to the position of Vice-Chairperson. There were no other nominations. Moved by Commissioner Hertel, supported by Commissioner Grebner to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Commissioner Celentino. Motion carried unanimously. Absent: Commissioner Tennis.
Vice-Chairperson Pro Tem: Chairperson Thomas opened the floor for nominations to the position of Vice-Chairperson Pro Tem. Moved by Commissioner Schor, supported by Commissioner Celentino to nominate Commissioner Dougan to the position of Vice-Chairperson Pro Tem. Moved by Commissioner Hertel, supported by Commissioner Grebner to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Commissioner Dougan. Motion carried unanimously.
ADDITIONS TO AGENDA:
Update on 911 System Improvements: Deputy Controller, John Nielson, updated the Board on the progress that is being made to enhance and repair the 911 system.
SPECIAL ORDERS OF THE DAY:
Standing Committee Appointments: Chairperson Thomas made the following appointments to standing committees. The first Commissioner named will serve as Chairperson of the Committee; the second person named will serve as Vice-Chairperson the Committee:
County Services Committee: Commissioners Nolan, De Leon, Copedge, Soule, Grebner and Severino
Finance Committee: Commissioners Grebner, Hertel, Weatherwax-Grant, Celentino, Schor and Dougan
Human Services Committee: Commissioners Schor, Bahar-Cook, Hertel, Soule, Severino and Dougan
