RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE A CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF LANSING TO PROVIDE DENTAL SERVICES TO HOMELESS PEOPLE



RESOLUTION #00-013



WHEREAS, the City of Lansing has received a three year grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and one obligation of the grant is to "enhance the appearance and related self-esteem of homeless individuals by providing needed restorative and prophylactic dental services"; and



WHEREAS, Ingham County, through the Health Department, operates a Health Center at Sparrow Hospital which provides health care for homeless individuals and has expertise in dental services through the staff of its Dental Clinic; and



WHEREAS, the City of Lansing has proposed to contract with Ingham County to implement the dental services portion of the HUD grant; and



WHEREAS, the Health Officer has recommended that the Board of Commissioners authorize the agreement with the City of Lansing and adjust the Health Department's 2000 Budget to implement this expanded service to homeless people.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes a contract with the City of Lansing to implement a system to provide dental services to homeless individuals.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the period of the agreement shall be October 1, 1999 through September 30, 2002, and that the City will provide $34,333 in FY 2000; $33,333 in FY 2001; and $33,334 in FY 2002 to the County to implement the dental services system.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Controller is authorized to adjust the Health Department's FY 2000 budget to increase total revenues and expenditures by $34,333.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board Chairperson is authorized to sign the contract after review by the County Attorney.
