Introduced by the Administrative Services/Personnel and Finance Committees of the:

INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE INGHAM COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION= S APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL AND STATE CRITICAL BRIDGE FUNDS TO

REPLACE THE ONONDAGA ROAD BRIDGE OVER THE GRAND RIVER

IN ONONDAGA TOWNSHIP

RESOLUTION #00-134

WHEREAS, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners has received the engineering, load analysis, and bridge inspection report on the Onondaga Road Bridge located in Onondaga Township in Ingham County; and

WHEREAS, among other things, the recommendation from the engineering contractor DLZ Corporation who conducted the analysis is that the bridge be re-posted and other measures undertaken up to and including eventual replacement; and

WHEREAS, this report clearly outlines a definite need for replacement of the bridge because of its age, advanced corrosion of the substructure structural steel members, the resultant lack of a proper coating system which exposes the bridge= s steel elements to a continued corrosive environment, and the percentage of loss of section critical to the capacity of the bridge, which was discovered in the load analysis; and

WHEREAS, the Road Commission is required to submit its application for critical bridge funds to the Michigan Department of Transportation by June 1, 2000 and the Board of Commissioners, recognizing the importance of this project, wishes to express its support of the application for federal and state critical bridge funds.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby adopts this resolution in support of the Road Commission= s application for federal and state critical bridge funds to replace the Onondaga Road Bridge over the Grand River in Onondaga Township.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners urges strong consideration of the application during the review process as the safety and convenience of this bridge is of paramount importance to the well being of the general public and specifically to the residents of Ingham County.
