INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

WHEREAS, certain residents in Lansing Township have experienced for the second year an infestation of skunks in their neighborhoods causing a nuisance and destruction of property; and

WHEREAS, the Lansing Township Board of Trustees desires to join Ingham County in providing funding to assist their residents in the capture, removal and humane euthanasia of skunks living in their area with fifty percent of the cost being borne by the Township and fifty percent of the cost being borne by Ingham County; and

WHEREAS, Lansing Area Search and Rescue, a not for profit corporation, has agreed to capture and humanely euthanasia skunks from the designated area in Lansing Township at a rate of $30.00 per captured animal; and

WHEREAS, the Lansing Township Board of Trustees has approved an expenditure to a maximum of $1,000 for this purpose and requests that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners approve an equal amount for this purpose.

WHEREAS, as part of the efforts to reduce the skunk population in this area, Lansing Township is pursuing a multifaceted approach toward this problem which, in addition to the trapping and eradication of skunks, includes providing educational programs for the affected residents and cleaning up the banks of the river to reduce the skunk habitat.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners approves the appropriation of up to $1,000 from County contingency funds to the Animal Control Budget for the capture and removal of skunks from Lansing Township.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorizes the Ingham County Animal Control Director to disburse funds and the County Controller to make the appropriate adjustments to the Animal Control 2000 budget in accordance with this resolution.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Ingham County= s match amount is contingent upon Lansing Township= s agreed upon contribution of $1,000.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners and the County Clerk are authorized to sign any necessary contract documents with the Lansing Area Search and Rescue organization and Lansing Township consistent with this resolution and approved as to form by the County Attorney.
