RESOLUTION HONORING MICHAEL V. BENEDICT

RESOLUTION #00-318

WHEREAS, Michael Benedict began his career with the City of East Lansing in June, of 1968 as a temporary employee in the Sanitation Department; and

WHEREAS, from 1975 to 1979, Mike worked as an Administrative Assistant to the City Manager before leaving to accept the position of Director of Personnel and Labor Relations for the City of Midland; and

WHEREAS, in 1981, Mike returned to the City of East Lansing in the capacity of Personnel/Labor Relations Director, he also handled the responsibilities of the City Clerk until 1993; and

WHEREAS, from July, 1994 to April, 1995, Mike served as Acting City Manager while continuing his responsibilities as Personnel/Labor Relations Director, and was appointed to the position of Deputy City Manager in July, 1995; and

WHEREAS, during his years of service with the City of East Lansing, Mike was the recipient of the prestigious A Sherman Award@ in recognition of exemplary contributions to Michigan public sector labor relations and to the Michigan Public Employer Labor Relations Association; and was honored with a Special Award of Merit from the Michigan Municipal League for service on and chairing the MML Employee Relations Committee for his dedication and devotion to the cause of municipal government and advancement of municipal affairs in Michigan; and

WHEREAS, Michael Benedict is retiring from his position of Deputy City Manager with the City of East Lansing.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honor Michael Benedict for his years of service with the City of East Lansing and for the contributions he has made toward improving the quality of life for the citizens of Ingham County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes him continued success in all of his future endeavors.
