INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THAT AN APPLICATION BE MADE TO THE
MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR A
NATURAL RESOURCE TRUST FUND GRANT TO DEVELOP A NON-MOTORIZED
PATHWAY IN MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP
RESOLUTION #06-056
WHEREAS, the Ingham County Parks Master Plan was developed under the direction of the Ingham County Board of Commissioners to establish a systematic plan to meet the goal of providing adequate recreational facilities for the residents of Ingham County; and
WHEREAS, the development of non-motorized trails, especially those that connect recreation areas and urban population centers was listed as a top priority in the Ingham County Parks Master Plan; and
WHEREAS, the location of the proposed trail will link Lake Lansing Park South and Central Park (Meridian Township), with a proposed second phase eventually connecting to Michigan State University; and
WHEREAS, Meridian Township, realizing the benefit of such a trail to the area, has pledged $119,000 in support of the project; and
WHEREAS, $158,500 is included within the Parks Department=s 2006 Budget; and
WHEREAS, $312,900 will be requested from the Michigan Department of Transportation via a Transportation Enhancement Program Grant (TEA) through the Ingham County Road Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Ingham County Parks & Recreation Commission has recommended that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners authorize an application to be submitted to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for a grant from the Natural Resources Trust Fund in the amount of $312,900 to assist in the development of a non-motorized pathway with a total cost of $903,300 as detailed below:
Ingham County $158,500 (17.55%)
Meridian Township $119,000 (13.17%)
Michigan DNR Natural Resources Trust Fund $312,900 (34.64%)
Michigan Department of Transportation $312,900 (34.64%)
TOTAL PROJECT COST $903,300
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that an application be submitted to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for a Natural Resources Trust Fund grant in the amount of $312,900 to assist in the development of a non-motorized pathway in Meridian Township.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners confirms the commitment of $158,500 appropriated during the 2006 budget process.
