3.         Health Department – Presentation on School Based Health Centers

Mr. Fournier explained the Health Department will be submitting four grant applications in response to a Request for Proposals issued collaboratively by the Michigan Department of Education and the Michigan Department of Community Health.  The RFP is seeking applications for School-Based and School-Linked Child and Adolescent Health Centers and Planning Grants. Mr. Fournier stated the four separate applications include:

·        Clinical Child School-Based Health Center at Otto Middle School – This application will request $175,000 in State support to continue existing school-based health center operations.

·        Non-Clinical Adolescent School-Linked Health Center at Willow Plaza Services – This application will request $85,000 in State support to continue existing peer education non-clinical health center operations.

·        Clinical Adolescent School Linked-Health Center at Willow Plaza Services - $175,000 in State support would expand current clinical services;

·        Planning Grant Application – This application would request $175,000 in State support to examine the feasibility and community support in establishing an Adolescent School-Based Health Center within a Lansing School District High School.

The total amount requested is $510,000.   Mr. Fournier informed the Committee that the Lansing School District has already approved this concept.
