INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A CHALLENGE TO THE OFFICIAL 2000 CENSUS COUNTS FOR INGHAM COUNTY



RESOLUTION #01-160



WHEREAS, the Ingham County Apportionment Commission has begun its work to determine new commissioner districts; and



WHEREAS, the Apportionment Commission has been reviewing the recently released census data as it proceeds to do its work; and



WHEREAS, there appear to be enough significant errors in the recently released census data that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners should consider a challenge.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that based upon these errors which include the following, the Board of Commissioners will challenge the official 2000 Census count:

The Ingham County Jail was erroneously placed in

A residential neighborhood in East Lansing had a 2030%

increase. It appears that non-residents were erroneously included

The dormitories of Akers and Hubbard had a population

decrease of 55.59%. It appears that persons residing therein

The Snyder-Phillips dormitory had a population increase of 268.14%.

the census count.

The Mason-Abbott dormitory had a population decrease of 100%. It

from the census count.

The Shaw dormitory had a population decrease of 100%. It

from the census count.

The dormitories in the West Circle area including Landon and Yakeley-Gilchrist, had a population decrease of 57.92%. It appears that persons residing therein were

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Attorney is authorized to take such actions as necessary to challenge the official 2000 Census count.
