RESOLUTION HONORING MICHAEL LESSA



RESOLUTION #01-213



WHEREAS, Michael Lessa is a sophomore and honor student at Lansing Catholic Central; and



WHEREAS, Mike is a member of the Waverly Capital Circuit Swim Team, where he was voted rookie of the year, placed 12th in the Capital Area Conference Championship meet in freestyle and earned a Varsity Letter in swimming; and



WHEREAS, he is also an active member of SS. Cornelius and Cyprian Church in Leslie and volunteers at St. Mary's School in Williamston; and



WHEREAS, Mike joined Williamston Cub Scout Pack 263 in 1993 and received the Arrow of Light on February 16,1997, he then joined Boy Scout Troop #63; and



WHEREAS, during his career in Boy Scouts, Mike climbed the ranks, earning 30 merit badges and serving his troop as Treasurer, Assistant Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader, and has completed Junior Leader Training, attended Northwoods Scout Reservation several times and went to Philmont Scout Ranch, in New Mexico in August of 2000; and



WHEREAS, Mike has recently earned the highest rank attainable in Scouting, the Eagle Scout; and



WHEREAS, to achieve the Eagle rank, a scout must demonstrate leadership and citizenship while earning 21 merit badges before reaching the age of 18; and



WHEREAS, for his Eagle Scout Project , Mike choose to design and landscape a low maintenance natural rock garden setting for a small statue of St. Mary, to be used at the May Crowning and as an outdoor sanctuary where families of St. Mary's and staff members can go to pray; and



WHEREAS, Michael spent more than 50 hours planning the project, 15 scouts and adults worked an additional 115 hours under his supervision until it was completed.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners congratulate Michael Lessa for earning the rank of Eagle Scout and extend its sincere appreciation to Mike for serving as a positive role model for the youth in our community.
