RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE REQUEST OF THE INGHAM COUNTY ROAD COMMISSION TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL AND STATE CRITICAL BRIDGE FUNDS TO REPLACE THE HARPER ROAD BRIDGE IN ALAIEDON TOWNSHIP



RESOLUTION #01-221



WHEREAS, Great Lakes Engineering Group of Lansing recently conducted a load analysis of the cross beam that supports the deck beams of the Harper Road Bridge, over Sycamore Creek, in Alaiedon Township and submitted a report to the Ingham County Road Commission with their recommendations; and



WHEREAS, at the Road Commission's regular meeting of June 21, 2001, the Commission agreed with the recommendations contained in the report to reduce the structure travel way to one ten foot lane, post the bridge for a gross load of 26 tons for one unit, 30 tons for two units, 37 tons for three units, and will increase the inspection frequency to a six month cycle in order to observe changes in the beam ends; and



WHEREAS, the Road Commission will be applying for federal and state critical bridge funding for the replacement of the bridge; and



WHEREAS, to assist the Road Commission in obtaining critical bridge funding, the Road Commission is requesting that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners adopts this resolution supporting their request to apply for federal and state critical funds; and



WHEREAS, the application was due at the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) on June 1st, however, because of the urgency of the matter, MDOT is allowing the Commission to turn in the application late; and



WHEREAS, this resolution of support will be submitted with the application and notification of which bridges receiving funds should be released at the end of this year, or around the first of 2002; and



WHEREAS, Ingham County Road Commission plans to hire an engineering firm to start and design the replacement of the bridge to allow replacement work shortly after receiving notification that the project has received funding.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners supports the request of the Ingham County Road Commission to apply for federal and state critical bridge funding to replace Harper Road Bridge over the Sycamore Creek in Alaiedon Township.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Ingham County Road Commission will hire an engineering firm to start and design the replacement of the bridge to allow replacement work shortly after receiving notification that the project has received funding.
