RESOLUTION CONDEMNING TERRORIST ACTIONS AGAINST THE UNITED STATES AND SUPPORTING EFFORTS OF THE PRESIDENT TO DEFEND AGAINST ADDITIONAL ATTACKS AND BRING THOSE RESPONSIBLE TO JUSTICE AND TO ENCOURAGE UNITY AMONG THE RESIDENTS OF INGHAM COUNTY



RESOLUTION #01-274



WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, the United States experienced the deadliest terrorism attack in the history of our nation; and



WHEREAS, four civilian aircrafts were hijacked, two were crashed into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third into the Pentagon outside Washington D.C. and the fourth in a field in Pennsylvania, resulting in the loss of lives of thousands of innocent Americans; and



WHEREAS, these horrific events touch the lives of every American; and



WHEREAS, Americans need to stand tall and proud to send a message to those responsible for this cowardly attack that the American spirit cannot be broken by terrorism; and



WHEREAS, this is a time for Americans to unite and refrain from threats and accusations against one another, and those with different origins and beliefs, which will only worsen this terrible tragedy.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby condemn the cowardly actions of the terrorists responsible for the vicious attack on our nation and support the efforts of the President of the United States as he works with his national security team to defend against additional attacks and to find the perpetrators to bring them to justice.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Board urges residents of Ingham County to join together at this time of sorrow and refrain from retribution against all individuals in the community.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that citizens are encouraged to support relief efforts by donating blood at the nearest available blood donation center.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board joins the nation in honoring the victims and the police officers and fire fighters who gave their lives in the line of duty, their thoughts and prayers go out to the families and all those who have been affected by this senseless act of terrorism.
