RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE LOCAL SAFETY PROJECT IN

MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP



RESOLUTION #01-368



WHEREAS, the intersection of Bennett Road and Hulett Road in Meridian Township has seen an increase in traffic since the new Okemos High School and Bennett Wood Elementary School were built; and



WHEREAS, it will soon see additional traffic originating from the proposed 279 unit

Governor's Club development; and



WHEREAS, presently the intersection warrants a traffic signal, but the Ingham County Road Commission believes that the better long term alternative is to install a modern roundabout; and

WHEREAS, in order to pursue this project, the Road Commission is requesting assistance from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Federal Safety Fund; and



WHEREAS, an application will be submitted by the February 8, 2002 deadline. Depending on funding availability, project selection is scheduled to be made public in April of 2002.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners supports the Local Safety Project and the request of the Road Commission to obtain funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Federal Safety Fund.
