RESOLUTION HONORING EDWARD E. GROBE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS
RETIREMENT AS DIRECTOR OF THE INGHAM COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENT
RESOLUTION 98-01
WHEREAS, Edward E. Grobe has been employed as the Director of the Ingham County
Department of Development for over twenty-four years; and
WHEREAS, during his years of service with Ingham County, Ed has worked incessantly to develop certified industrial parks with the necessary infrastructure and utilities in several municipalities within Ingham County, and has been instrumental in establishing an extensive program of business and industrial retention, and downtown development; and
WHEREAS, Ed has been the driving force for securing industrial revenue bonding and
other economic resources for numerous business and industrial projects that have been very
beneficial to local communities in the form of new jobs creation, expanded tax base, and
overall quality of life; and
WHEREAS, under Ed's leadership the Department of Development has evolved from a fledgling internal grants procurement operation in the early 1970s, to a major economic development entity in the State of Michigan, with a successful track record for attracting new businesses and retaining existing ones; and
WHEREAS, through his tireless efforts to improve the overall economic development
climate in Ingham County, Ed has been an active member of the Michigan Economic
Development Association for many years, serving as chair of several committees, and has
successfully represented Ingham County in regional cooperatives such as the Regional
Economic Development Team (RED Team), Community Growth Alliance, and Lansing Regional
Chamber of Commerce's Capital Choice Campaign; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his efforts, Ed is the recipient of the 1994-95 Michigan
Economic Developers Association Medalist of the Year Award, an award presented each year
to the outstanding economic developer in the State of Michigan; and
WHEREAS, as a result of Ed's unselfish dedication to assist other economic developers
and communities in the area of economic development, he was also awarded the Michael
Conboy Professional Development Award in 1991; and
WHEREAS, after 24 years of being the county's number one cheerleader for economic
development, Ed will be retiring from his position as Director of the Department of
Development on January 15, 1998, to spend more quality time up at the cabin with his
family, and in vigorous pursuit of his real passions, namely, hunting, fishing, and golf .
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors
Edward E. Grobe for his many years of dedicated service to the County of Ingham and

extends its sincere appreciation for the countless contributions he has made to the
citizens of Ingham County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Commissioners wishes Ed good health, lots of
venison and fish, low golf scores, and continued success in all of his future endeavors.
