RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #98-217

RESOLUTION #98-236

WHEREAS, Resolution 98-217 authorized a contract with the State of Michigan Office of Community Corrections accepting a grant for the construction of a probation residential center, and directed staff to further evaluate four sites in the Lansing area for suitability as a location for a probation residential center; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has recently been advised that the Library Services Building will be returned to the County for its use on January 1, 1999; and

WHEREAS, it would be physically possible to renovate this building to provide 45 residential probation beds without expanding the building or impacting parking; and

WHEREAS, a location in Mason, if used in conjunction with residential probation beds in the Lansing area, may be feasible in terms of assuring program success; and

WHEREAS, a need still exists for a total of 80 residential probation beds;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Resolution #98-217 is amended to direct the Controller, working with the Study Committee and the CCAB, as part of the evaluation of the four sites in the Lansing area, to consider the possibility of utilizing the Library Services Building in Mason for up to 45 beds in a program which would operated separately from the jail, to be used in conjunction with one or more of the four sites and existing probation residential services as necessary to achieve a total of 80 beds.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners request that the CCAB place in its programming a 12-month follow-up study of its clients.
