"WORKERS' MEMORIAL DAY IN INGHAM COUNTY"
"SAFE JOBS - MAKE OUR VOICE HEARD"

WHEREAS, each year hundreds of workers lose their lives in occupational accidents; and
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, April 28, 1998, labor unions across the nation will observe "Workers' Memorial Day" to remember those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew the fight for safe workplaces nationwide; and
WHEREAS, this day shall also serve as the anniversary of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and is marked as an International Day of Mourning; and
WHEREAS, for decades the labor movement has led the fight for organized and unorganized workers, and won stronger job safety protections that have improved their quality of life in the workplace; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme, "Safe Jobs - Make our Voice Heard," marks the UAW and AFL-CIO's tenth observance of "Workers' Memorial Day".
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby designates April 28, 1998, as "Workers' Memorial Day" in Ingham County and joins with the UAW and AFL-CIO as it observes its 10th Workers' Memorial Day.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners encourages the citizens of Ingham County to remember those who have lost their lives in occupational related accidents.
