INGHAM COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE INGHAM COUNTY MSU EXTENSION TO PURCHASE A LAPTOP COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE AND TO AMEND THE 1998 EXTENSION BUDGET AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT BUDGET TO ACCOMMODATE THIS PURCHASE

RESOLUTION #98-96

WHEREAS, Extension educators frequently teach to large groups of individuals in conducting educational programs throughout various locations and meeting facilities in the county; and

WHEREAS, the University and other organizations are now providing educational materials and instructional media in the form of video and computer generated data and images creating a need for Extension to continue to update its projection equipment; and

WHEREAS, a laptop computer with appropriate presentation software will significantly augment our capacity to provide up-to-date presentations; and

WHEREAS, the Ingham County MIS Department has been consulted for pricing a laptop computer and software and have identified the Toshiba 750 DVD laptop for $5,900 and Office Pro software at $560 for a total cost of $6,460; and

WHEREAS, Michigan State University has granted $1,500 to Ingham County MSU Extension toward the purchase of instructional equipment requiring a County match to purchase the laptop computer and software; and

WHEREAS, Ingham County MSU Extension has $4,960 available by pooling funds from several office activity and revolving accounts.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby authorizes Ingham County MSU Extension to accept the MSU technology grant of $1,500 and to allocate $4,960 from office activity accounts to purchase a laptop computer with software at a total cost not to exceed $6,460.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County Controller is authorized to amend the 1998 Ingham County MSU Extension budget and to amend the County Extension capital improvement fund in accordance with this resolution.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Chairperson of the Ingham County Board of Commissioners and the County Clerk are authorized to sign any necessary contract documents consistent with this resolution and approved as to form by the County Attorney.
