RESOLUTION HONORING THE INGHAM COUNTY WOMEN'S COMMISSION ON THE EVENT OF ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY



RESOLUTION #99-189



WHEREAS, on August 13, 1974, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners established the Ingham County Women's Commission; and



WHEREAS, the original intent of the Women's Commission was to serve in the capacity of a study, research and resource center on the many and complex issues concerning the needs of women in the County; and



WHEREAS, in 1976, the Committee was restructured to serve as advisors to the Board of Commissioners regarding the impact of actions and policies of the County on women in Ingham County; to research and recommend better ways of meeting the needs of women through County resources; to work with the Equal Opportunity Committee in recommending methods of overcoming discrimination against women in County employment and civil and political rights; and to secure appropriate recognition of women's accomplishments and contributions to Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, since its inception, the Ingham County Women's Commission has experienced many programmatic successes and accomplishments, including involvement with the New Way In and Rural Emergency Outreach, co-sponsor of monthly Divorce Overview Forums throughout Ingham County; provided acquaintance rape prevention education for high school students throughout the County; produced the Health Care Guide for Women in Ingham County in collaboration with the Ingham County Board of Health, developed a sexual harassment policy for county employees; sponsored the Ingham County Sexual Assault Task Force, sponsored the Council Against Domestic Assault and the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and



WHEREAS, August 13, 1999 marked the 25th anniversary of the Ingham County Women's Commission.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby honors the Ingham County Women's Commission on the event of its 25th anniversary and extends its appreciation to past and current members of the Commission for making a difference in the lives of women in Ingham County.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes the Ingham County Women's Commission continued success as it paves the way for women into the next millennium.
