RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE LANSING BRANCH OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF COLORED PEOPLE (NAACP) ON THE EVENT OF ITS 80TH ANNIVERSARY
RESOLUTION #99-214
WHEREAS, on October 15, 1919, the Lansing Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was established to obtain social, political and economic equality of all individuals without regard to race, religion or national origin; and
WHEREAS, in 1919, the first President, Mr. C.A. Campbell, initiated the first civil rights discrimination case which was prosecuted and won; and
WHEREAS, the current and past presidents of the Lansing Branch of the NAACP have been extraordinary leaders; and
WHEREAS, since its inception the Lansing Branch of the NAACP has experienced great successes in the area of civil rights and human relations.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby recognize the Lansing Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) on the event of their 80th anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board extends its sincere gratitude to the Lansing Branch of the NAACP for their many achievements and for the contributions they have made toward improving the quality of life for the citizens of the County of Ingham.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board wishes them continued success in all of their future endeavors.
