RESOLUTION TO INCREASE FROM SEVEN TO TEN THE MEMBERSHIP

OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH



RESOLUTION #99-225

WHEREAS, the Ingham County Board of Health acts as an advisory board to the Ingham County Board of Commissioners and to the Ingham County Health Department on issues of public health problems, public health policy and public health planning; and



WHEREAS, the Board of Health serves to provide a broad based focal point of community and health professional input to the Board and the Department on a full range of health care programs and issues which impact the citizens of Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, the Board of Health studies health problems and health issues, including those referred by the Human Services Committee and makes recommendations for action on health programs and prioritizations; and



WHEREAS, the Board of Health has been composed of seven residents of Ingham County, less than 50% of the membership has been health care providers; and



WHEREAS, the Board of Health recommends an increase in the number of members on the Board of Health in an effort to expand the community perspectives contributing to deliberations on health issues, and to improve the diversity of Board of Health membership.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, membership of the Ingham County Board of Health shall increase from seven to ten residents of Ingham County, with no more than 50% of the membership representing health care providers.



BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the three vacancies shall be advertised and filled expeditiously and that every attempt will be made to appoint at least two persons representing minority populations in the County.
