RESOLUTION HONORING JOANNE MCPHERSON FOR HER CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD THE FIGHT AGAINST FAMILY VIOLENCE



RESOLUTION #99-96



WHEREAS, family violence is a pervasive crime that affects many families; and



WHEREAS, public acknowledgment of family violence has been slow in coming due to long standing beliefs against interfering in family matters; and



WHEREAS, the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council is an ad hoc group of interested parties, such as law enforcement, courts, prosecution, municipalities, community health, hospitals, shelters, schools and care providers; which was formed in March, 1994 to combat family violence in Ingham County; and

WHEREAS, Joanne McPherson has worked with the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council and is responsible for helping the Michigan State University community become aware of the problem of family violence within the community; and



WHEREAS, Joanne was instrumental in establishing "Safe Place", a shelter for victims of family violence at Michigan State University.



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby commend Joanne McPherson for the contributions she has made to the community and for her dedication and commitment towards the fight against family violence in Ingham County.
