RESOLUTION HONORING JAMES COOK FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CAPITAL AREA FAMILY VIOLENCE COORDINATING COUNCIL



RESOLUTION #99-97



WHEREAS, family violence is a pervasive crime that affects many families; and



WHEREAS, public acknowledgment of family violence has been slow in coming due to long standing beliefs against interfering in family matters; and



WHEREAS, James Cook, now retired from the Lansing Police Department, was a charter member of the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council; and



WHEREAS, the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council is an ad hoc group of interested parties, such as law enforcement, courts, prosecution, municipalities, community health, hospitals, shelters, schools and care providers; which was formed in March, 1994 to combat family violence in Ingham County; and



WHEREAS, the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council sponsors Lansing's Capital Area Response Effort (C.A.R.E.) team, a team of trained volunteers which responds to all domestic violence arrests and offers counseling and support to domestic violence victims; and



WHEREAS, James Cook is the key reason why the C.A.R.E. Team is a successful volunteer program. today; and



THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Ingham County Board of Commissioners hereby commend James Cook for his dedication and commitment to the Capital Area Family Violence Coordinating Council and the fight against family violence in Ingham County.
