THE SELECTION PROCESS

Selection of prospective jurors is randomly made by computer from Ingham County residents who have a valid Michigan driver's license or State I.D. card.

The Ingham County Circuit Court uses a "hot-line" telephone answering system to inform jurors if their services are required for a particular day. This method helps the Court in determining the number of jurors necessary to conduct the Court's daily business. It also minimizes the inconvenience to prospective jurors.

When you call, a recording will advise you whether you should report the following day.Your juror number is the basis for determining daily attendance - It is located on your jury summons in the box entitled "juror number". You will need to call each evening after 5:00 p.m. to find out whether you will be needed the following day. The phone number is 887-4698 for Lansing Circuit Court and 272-4198 for the Mason location..

Should you be selected for a trial, you must then follow the directions of the trial Judge.

SERVICE LENGTH

Jury duty lasts for one week or one trial, for any given 12-month period. If you are selected as a juror to hear a specific case , that trial's completion finishes your duty.
