The most commonly asked bookkeeping questions
| Ingham County Home | When do I get my bond back? The prosecutor’s office has charged you and only the prosecutor’s office may release this charge. Legally, they have 90 days from the day of sentencing in order to give the bookkeeper the proper paperwork. The bookkeeper, on the 15th of every month will mail out all bond refund checks. What if I posted bond for someone? The person that posted the bond must provide the bookkeeper with a receipt
that has their name on it. You must provide evidence that you posted bond for
another individual. If you cannot find the receipt then you must go back to the
place where you posted the bond to request a copy. This receipt must be
presented to the bookkeeper and once the paperwork has been received from the
prosecutor’s office the bond refund check will be mailed on the 15th. If a cash bond is posted and you have been ordered to pay court costs the bond will be applied to your court costs. How much bond money will I get back? The circuit court is allowed to take 10% of your total bond as a bond administrative fee. This administrative fee covers mailing out notices for hearings, pre-trial conferences, preliminary hearings and all other administrative duties performed by the court clerks. In some instances the 10% is returned. If the bond is applied to your court costs the 10% is deducted and the remaining bond amount is applied. All bonds are mailed out so please make sure the court has an updated address for you. **Each case is based on the individual. Any and all bond questions should be directed to the court bookkeeper at (517) 483-6500 Ext. 6809.
