Behavioral risk factors account for 50 percent of preventable death and disability. But certain health risk behaviors are outstanding in their contribution to illness and early death; these include tobacco use, poor diet and sedentary lifestyle and alcohol abuse.
By tracking the prevalence of these risk factors over time, we can measure our progress toward a healthier community. The Department works with neighboring health departments and other human services agencies to monitor indicators of community health status.
