Health Care Workers:

Did you know:

ˇ The CDC and all major health care organizations recommend that all individuals working in the health care environment get vaccinated annually against flu?

ˇ By getting a flu shot you are protecting yourself, your patients, and your family.

ˇ Even if you are not in a high risk group, your patients are.

ˇ Your patients may be vaccinated, but in the frail elderly, effectiveness may be as low as 30%. Getting the flu vaccine yourself helps to assure you will not get the flu at work and pass it on to family and friends.

ˇ Strains of flu virus change yearly. New vaccines are made to fight them as soon as they are identified. You need to be vaccinated every year.

ˇ You cannot get the flu from the flu vaccine. There is no live virus in the injectable vaccine. You might get a low grade fever and muscle aches that last a day or two.

ˇ It takes up to two weeks for the vaccine to become completely effective.

ˇ Approximately 36,000 people die from flu and related complications each year. 95% of these deaths occur in individuals age 65 and over.  The flu shot protects you and helps keep you from spreading it to vulnerable individuals.
