Services provided include preventive health maintenance exams, health screening assessments and lab tests, treatment of acute and chronic problems and referrals to specialists. Client health education, nutrition and social work counseling are provided in the clinic and in the client's home, if indicated.
Refugee children to age 18 who are new arrivals in Lansing receive comprehensive health screening and treatment of problems in collaboration with the Refugee Services branch of Catholic Social Services. Their staff schedules appointments, provides transportation, translation, assistance with obtaining and taking medication, and keeping appointments. Most of the children continue to receive ongoing primary health care at Child Health Services.Child Health Services has been a Medicaid managed health care provider
since 1993. In 2000, clients were enrolled in Physician's Health Plan's Family Care
Program, The Wellness Plan, McLaren Health Plan, or MIChild. Primary care and prevention
services were also provided to many uninsured/under-insured children based on a sliding
fee scale.

The Health Department provides vision and hearing screening services to all Ingham County public and private schools and to pre-schools and day care centers that request screening services. Annual school vision screening is provided to children in pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, grades 1, 3, 5. 7, 9 and to special education students. Annual school hearing screening is provided to children in prekindergarten, kindergarten, grades 1, 3, 5 and to special education students. Any other children age three or older who are referred to the program by a parent, teacher, or school nurse because of a suspected vision or hearing problem will also be screened.
