KENNEL SHELTER OPERATOR #08-033           $32,594 - $40,491  

Shift Schedule (Weekend and Holiday Rotations)                                                                                                                                                                         

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Animal Control Director, maintains the kennel facilities and cares for the impounded animals.  Cleans and disinfects areas used by the animals.  Feeds and waters animals, performs euthanasia on certain  animals under the supervision and direction of the Veterinarian, and disposes of  animal remains appropriately.  Maintains various records and assists in general maintenance of the facility.  Assists the County Veterinarian in the treatment of sick, diseased or injured animals.  Assists the public who come to the facility to redeem lost pets or to adopt/purchase animals.  May act as a lead worker for inmates and /or other kennel personnel.  May perform other related duties. 

Essential Job Functions: With or without accommodations, this employee will be required to be of the physical condition to be able to lift and carry weights in excess of 50lbs as a regular daily activity.  This position requires bending, stooping, walking, and standing for long periods of time.  Will be able to frequently be exposed to multiple harsh elements and other environmental conditions.  Must be able to drive a truck and plow snow.

Degree/ Experience.  High school graduate or equivalent required.  Additional education in Animal Science or related fields is helpful.  Must have previous and related work experience in the care, housing and handling of animals.  Shelter experience helpful.  Must pass a security clearance.  Must have a valid Michigan driver=s license.  Must submit cover letter and resume with application.
