PROBATION OFFICER #08-040           (Grant Funded Position)                               $47,907 - $57,512

 

Responsibilities:  Under the general direction of the Chief District Court Judge, District Court Judge, or Court Administrator, and the supervision of the Chief Probation Officer, will conduct investigations on the backgrounds of persons awaiting sentencing on district court convictions.  Prepares reports in order to assist the judge/s in determining the  proper sentencing of such individuals.  Develops and implements treatment programs for individuals placed on probation in an effort to rehabilitate them and prevent future violations.  Assists clients in securing employment, entering school, obtaining counseling or substance abuse treatment and/or other rehabilitative measures.  Refers clients to community rehabilitation programs.  Prepares progress reports on probationers as requested. May perform other related duties.

Essential Job Functions:  With or without accommodations this employee must be capable of conducting interview and counseling sessions in a one-on-one situation utilizing verbal communication skills and abilities.  Will require the use of a standard telephone system for communications with general public and clientele.  Must be capable of utilizing personal computer/word processor.  Work requires frequent standing for various short periods of time usually up to 20 minutes.  Must be able to spend the majority of the day sitting.  Some driving to client homes, and work locations is required.

Degree/Experience:  Bachelors degree in Behavioral Sciences, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field required.  Must have 10 to 12 months work experience.  Previous court related experience desired.  Counseling adult offenders or related work experience preferred.    This position will also be responsible for conducting alcohol assessments for the court.  Applicant will be expected to possess or obtain State of Michigan Certification in the Fundamentals of Alcohol and Other Drug Problems (FAODP) and/or Certified Criminal Justice Professional (CCJP). Driving records will be checked as part of the referral process.  You must be able to meet the standards of the Ingham County Driving Records Policy for referral
