PARKS/ZOO MAINTENANCE WORKER 300 #08-43 $29,927- $38,592
WORK SCHEDULE MAY INCLUDE NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, and HOLIDAYS.
Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Zoo Curator/Manager and Park Manager, performs landscaping and grounds maintenance work. Performs basic carpentry, construction, electrical and plumbing maintenance and repair work. Will answer routine questions from the general public regarding Park and Zoo rules, animal facts and other general questions. Cleans facilities, picks-up litter and ensures pavilions are ready for rental. Sets up and takes down equipment. Assists in set-up and take down of exhibits for special events. Works with volunteers and seasonal maintenance workers to perform various tasks around the park and zoo, and in building new exhibits and shelters. Operates a wide range of vehicles and equipment including light trucks, tractors, and several different types of snow removal equipment. Performs snow, grass and leaf removal duties. May assist zookeeper with animal escapes.
Essential Job Functions: With or without accommodations, this employee must be physically and mentally capable of verbal conversation and instruction with park patrons, employees, other County Staff and the general public. Walks on various types of terrain in all climate conditions with potential safety hazards incurred while working around zoo animals. Must be capable of performing various types of maintenance and construction tasks necessary to build and maintain animal facilities. Climbs stairs and ladders. Lifts, hauls and moves equipment, supplies and other material weighing from 25-50 pounds on a regular basis and heavier loads on occasion. Performs other routine physical functions like bending, sitting, standing, squatting, twisting, turning, grasping, etc. typical of maintenance duties and employees. Operates non-power hand tools and equipment. Operates jack hammers, table saws, drills, presses and other power equipment. Must have or obtain a valid Michigan Driver's license. Must have a good driving record.
Degree/Experience: High School Diploma. One year experience performing manual labor and/or maintenance tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Michigan Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required. Commercial Drivers License Class A or B with N and Air endorsements preferred. Driver records will be checked as part of the referral process. You must be able to meet the standards of the Ingham County Driving Records Policy for referral.
