Ingham County Sheriff's Department |
Capital Area Dive Team |
The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Lansing Police Department and the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, maintains an underwater dive rescue and recovery team. These trained individuals provide water rescue and recovery for all of Eaton County, City of Lansing, and a portion of Clinton County. The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office contributes seven divers to the 17 member team, who are also part of the department’s Marine Division, to individual assignments within the Capital Area Dive Team.
Members train on a monthly basis and occasionally combine evidence recovery or searches into their training. Exercises include a variety of rescue and recovery techniques, search patterns and recovery, as well as swift water and river diving. Several team members are rated at the Dive master level, the highest level of training attainable, recognized by both the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), or hold advanced diving certification.
