A WALKING TOUR OF THE HISTORIC
    INGHAM COUNTY COURTHOUSE

                             WELCOME TO THE
              INGHAM COUNTY COURTHOUSE

Ingham County has the unique distinction of  being the only County in the United States in which the Capitol is not located in the County Seat. The Capitol is in the City of Lansing while the County Courthouse is in the County seat, which is the City of Mason.

In 1971, the Courthouse was put on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1980 a renovation study was done to preserve the courthouse and to improve efficiency of operations. In 1995, after fifteen years of renovations and restoration work, the final work of decorating the public areas was completed by the County Commission on History.

The Ingham County Historical Commission is the oldest County Commission on History in the State of Michigan.
