Cat Showmanship Guidelines

1. Each member may show only his or her cat or the family cat.

2. To be eligible, the cat must be in member=s possession or born by April 1, of the year it is shown.

3. For show, the cat may be either a purebred or household pet.

4. The cat must be fed and cared for by the 4-H member.

5. All cats are required to have had distemper, rhino tracheitis and rabies inoculations before being entered and shown. PROOF OF VACCINATIONS MUST ACCOMPANY FAIR ENTRY. Feline leukemia inoculations are also strongly encouraged.

6. The 4-H member must be present while judging takes place.

7. Cat must be brought to the show in a carrier and kept under control at all times.

8. The owner must take the cat home immediately following the Cat show.

9. All 4-H cats must have their nails clipped. This is a safety factor for both member and judge.

10. 4-H members are also encouraged to

enter records of their cat project in the Record Keeping class.

AThe Right to be clean, the Right to be healthy, the Right to his own veterinarian, the Right to be protected from harm, the Right to claim one human as his/her owner, the Right to live in peace without fear, the Right to live in a pleasant environment, the Right to be free from harassment.

Also, the Right to human companionship, the Right to have a balanced, varied diet, the Right to be free of parasites, the Right of the female mixed-breed to be spayed, the Right of the male mixed-breed to be neutered, the Right to putt out of happiness and the Right to live a full 15 years.@
