Ingham County 4-H Basketry Guidelines
All exhibits must be made by the exhibitor! Basket classes should consist of more than just one meeting. A minimum of three classes is suggested.
Teach technique! Basket should be neat, ends tucked, hairs removed, no gaps. Remember, bigger is not always better. The baskets should be judged on shape and neatness.
1st Year - a round or square basket is suggested for a first year member. A simple border is also suggested.
2nd Year - 2 baskets, round or square, or different shapes such as hearts or elbows, showing two different types of borders.
3rd Year - Any basket showing different weaves other than twinning and plaiting.
4th Year - Ribbed baskets, baskets made on molds, large cradles.
Colors and curls add a nice touch to a basket, but neatness and shape are what the basket should be judged on.
