BEGINNERS - ( 1 - 2 YEARS IN PROJECT )

Learn basic materials
Learn how to care for brushes
Preparation of articles to be painted
Transferring the pattern
Basic brush strokes: comma stroke, side loading, use of liner brush
Use of some shading/highlighting on project, especially 2nd year
Finishing (including signing their work)
Suggested projects for beginners: Any flat wooden surface such as wall plague, tray, cutout shape, etc.
INTERMEDIATES - ( 3 - 4 YEARS IN PROJECT )
SUGGESTED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED:
1. Continue using skills learned in previous years
2. Shading and washes should be used extensively
3. Experiment with materials other than wood
4. More complex patterns should be used: faces, more detail and line work
5. Antiquing completed work
6. Lettering
ADVANCED - ( 5 YEARS AND OVER )
SUGGESTED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED:
1. Continue using skills learned in previous years
2. More elaborate and refined work
3. Extensive detail work, shading, highlighting, line work, realistic faces, etc.
4. Combine or create own designs or alter traditional designs
5. Try other surfaces
