4-H GUIDELINES FOR FABRIC PAINTING

 

GENERAL SUGGESTIONS TO HELP LEADERS:

DESIGN IN RELATION TO OBJECT USED MUST BE APPROPRIATE

FINISHING TO CREATE DURABILITY IS IMPORTANT

ACRYLIC AND OIL PAINTING, OR FABRIC DYES TO BE USED (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH BALL POINT TUBE PAINTING, OR LIQUID EMBROIDERY)

BEGINNERS - ( 1 - 2 YEARS IN PROJECT )

SUGGESTED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED:

1. Explore different paints and fabrics, and how they work together
2. Brushes to be used
3. Preparing fabric to paint
4. Transfer of pattern
5. Try to make finished product as neat as possible
6. Finishing: heat set, care instructions

Suggested projects for beginners: pillows, pillowcases, pocket on T-shirts, scarf, hat, T-shirts

 

 

INTERMEDIATES - ( 3 - 4 YEARS IN PROJECT )

SUGGESTED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED:

1. Continue using skills learned in previous years
2. More detail work and shading
3. Border on shirt, skirt, etc.
4. Incorporate different types of fabric paints: puff, glitter, foils

Suggested projects: T-shirts, sweatshirt

 

 

ADVANCED - ( 5 YEARS AND OVER )

SUGGESTED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS TO BE LEARNED:

1. Continue using skills learned in previous years
2. Complex work: extensive detail, shading, highlighting, line work
3. Original designs or adjust pattern
4. Coordinate objects: clothing-skirt with scarf or blouse; table settings-tablecloth            and napkins, etc.
