INGHAM COUNTY FAIR 4-H CLOWN JUDGING GUIDELINES

1. Make-up
2. Costume - See guidelines for minimum requirements
3. Clown name and character
4. One walk around or individual skill
5. Community Service participated in during the past year.

Second year clowns will be judged on:

1. Make-up
2. Costume - See guidelines for minimum requirements
3. Clown name and character
4. A walk-around gag.
5. A skill (juggling, balloons, magic, etc.)
or skit; must present a different skill or skit each year.
6. Community Service participated in during the past year.

 

Third year and up, clowns will be judged on:

1. Make-up
2. Costume - See guidelines for minimum requirements
3. Clown name and character
4. Demonstrate three of the following: walk around gags, skills, individual skit or improvisation
5. Community Service participated in during the past year.

 

Group Skit: A group skit is two or more individuals. A member may not perform in more than two skits. NOTE: All clowns must have performed before an audience AT LEAST ONE TIME of the current year in addition to the fair appearance. Performance record sheets are available from the 4-H office to verify these appearances. These sheets must be signed by your leader and presented to the judges in a folder or notebook.

Clown Projects: Displays will be judged according to year in clowning. Exhibit must be something the member has made for his/her clown act or because of it. Examples: scrapbooks (not community service) costumes, props, clown history, posters, collections, project boards, autobiographies. Individual entries only.

Community Services: Each community service performance must be recorded on a "Community Service Record" form and put in a notebook. Book is to include community service sheets only. Group A - five or more Community Service performances during the year, Group B - three to four performances, Group C: - One to two performances.

 

RULES OF CONDUCT:

1. Friendliness - When in costume and make-up, you ARE A CLOWN and should act like one. A clown is friendly to everyone: rich & poor, male & female, young & old, etc.

2 Makeup application - Clown contestants MUST apply their own make-up at the fair judging just prior to competition.

3. Disqualification Rule - Any attempt by contestants, their friends, leaders or relatives, to interfere with make-up application, the performance or creative activity of the other contestants will result in immediate disqualification from the Fair clown competition.

        4. Time - Watch time when performing your skits and skills they should be of reasonable length.
