Announcements:

Spring Goat Day is March 10 at MSU Pavilion

The State 4-H Goat Expo will be held April 28. Registration books were available.

Meeting began with New Business:

1. Thinking of You Card sent to Rachel Parkhurst, goat member of White Oak

2. Judges for 207: Rachel reported that Cheri Kast will not be available to judge. Rusty suggested contacting Carrie Ringquist first and then possibly Dave Pikering. Rachel will contact.

3. Rusty will investigate the possibility of having the sheep judge do the market goat class in 2008.

4. Fair Awards: Discussion on the Danish System and the placements of Blue, Red and White ribbons. Judges are to be encouraged to be honest in their animal evaluations.

The 4-H Catalog has a fold-up 4H chair. Investigate the possibility of using these at $15 rather than the director chairs at $70. Check to see how sturdy and if it is possible to embroider.

5. New addition to fair book: ALL Market Goats must have a scrapie tag.

6. Acceptable goat entries for fair must have scrapie tag (LaMancha can have tag in tail web) or a scrapie number tattoed in the ear or tail web WITH the matching scrapie tag or registration papers with matching tattoo, except for the exception above for market animals. It is now possible to register a dairy pet wether with ADGA and receive a registration paper.

Old Business:

Pat Lamison thanked all the members of council that came to the meeting.

She wanted to discuss the letter that was sent to the Sweers family concerning the council's decision to sanction the family from one year of showing goats for selling a goat mid-week and it leaving the fair grounds at that time. Mr. Sweers feels that the discipline was too tough. After much discussion of the pros and cons on both sides of the situation the council did not agree to withdraw their decision. Pat Lamison will take this back to 4-H Staff and the director for further consideration.

Because of this situation the fair board has determined that greater security during fair is necessary. There will be no animals allowed outside of the gates without the Superintendent's knowledge.

Motion to Adjourn made by Abby Richmond and second by Judy Richmond.

Respectfully submitted,

Cris Bean

Secretary of Ingham County Goat Council
