The Family Independence Agency (FIA) is a state department which helps individuals and families meet financial, medical, and social needs, assists people to become self-sufficient, and helps protect children and adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation. State and federally funded programs and services are provided locally through the Ingham County Family Independence Agency.

Family Independence Agency Board

Provides funding for the Family Independence Agency Board, which advises on the activities of the Ingham County Family Independence Agency, provides for the hospitalization of indigent adults, and is responsible for the operation of the Ingham County Medical Care Facility.

Individual Support

Provides funding to meet the needs of children and adults not covered by, or who do not qualify for, federal or state programs. Includes the administration of State-run Social programs , such as the Family Independence Program (FIP), Medicaid (MA), Food Stamps (FS), State Emergency Assistance (SER) and State Disability Assistance (SDA).

Foster Care-Neglect/Abuse

Provides services for court ordered foster care, relative placement, independent living, institutional care and home-based services such as psychological assessment of parents, individual and family therapy, and supportive services to parents
