INGHAM COUNTY MEDICAL EXAMINER
Michigan Law mandates that the Ingham County Medical Examiner establish the cause and manner of death in all persons who die suddenly, unexpectedly, violently as a result of any suspicious circumstances, while imprisoned in a county or city jail, or in persons without medical attendance 48 hours prior to the time of death. An additional responsibility of the Medical Examiner is to establish the cause and manner of death when there is no other physician available or none willing to sign the Death Certificate.
Medical Examiner Services(Long-term Objective: Prevent and Control Disease)
Operates the office of the Medical Examiner, which is responsible for the
performance of necessary autopsies to determine cause and manner of
death.
