Child Care Checklist

Program

• the program is licensed
• the group sizes are small
• the hours are suitable
• staff to child ratios meet or exceed licensing standards
• the holiday/vacation/sick child policies are acceptable
• the discipline policy was explained
• the costs are within my budget
• the provider explained all fees
• children have opportunities to explore materials/ideas

Environment

• the rooms are clean, attractive and safe
• there are enough equipment and toys
• the equipment and toys are in good repair
• there is enough space for all activities
• there is a safe outdoor play area
• first aid supplies and fire extinguisher are present
• bathrooms and diapering areas are clean
• there is a proper sleeping space
• meals are adequate and nutritious
• the caregivers interact frequently with the children in a friendly, positive, and courteous manner

Staff

• the caregivers use positive guidance techniques
• the caregivers have training and experience
• the children like the caregivers
• caregivers get involved in the children's activities
• the caregivers set out appropriate activities
• the caregivers seem interested in talking with parents about the children and the program

Parents

• parents are involved in decision making
• parents are permitted to visit at any time
• parent involvement is encouraged
