Training Schedule Spring/Summer 2006

OYC is excited to be able to offer several opportunities for professional development this quarter.  However, due to a decrease in funding, OYC will be charging a registration fee for some training.  Below is the training schedule for Spring/Summer.  Please note some trainings are funded by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) so are FREE to participants, others fall under OYC's new fee for service.      

Beyond Back to Sleep and Shaken Baby Syndrome (1.5 hours)

Learn the most up to date research and practices for Keeping Babies Sleeping Safely.  It’s more than just Back to Sleep!  This training also covers Shaken Baby Syndrome and fulfills the Michigan Daycare Licensing requirement.  Participants will receive a K.I.S.S. Pledge Sheet to display and a letter certifying 1.5 hours of training in Safe Sleep/Shaken Baby training.

 Cost:  $20.00 per person.

 Basic Training (16 hours)

This series includes Basic training in the topics of Professionalism; Safety, Health and Nutrition; Child Growth and Development; Professional Growth; Guidance and Discipline; Parent/Provider Relations and Community Resources. Optional Credit: Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Michigan State University are available and may be purchased by participants who complete the 16 hours of training.

 Cost: FREE- This program is funded by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.

Play (2.5 hours)

Play is what children do naturally.  Children learn about themselves, others and their world through play.  Discover and share ways that enhance play experiences and provide diverse learning opportunities for children.

 Cost: $25.00 per person

Inclusion – Caring for Children with Special Needs (16 hour Specialized Training)

All children are entitled to a program that meets their individual needs regardless of their ability and development.  This training explores methods for providing an overall inclusive environment. Optional Credit: Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from Michigan State University are available and may be purchased by participants who complete the 16 hours of training.

 Cost: FREE- This program is funded by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation.

 Bullying (2.5 hours)

Bullying behavior is becoming a more common problem for children as young as preschool.  Break the cycle of bullying.  Discover ways to enhance your environment to build a bully free zone.  

 Cost: $25.00 per person
