DISTRICT COURT CLERK #08-041 (Grant Funded-Part Time) $14.05 – $16.86
Responsibilities: Under the general direction of the Court Administrator, performs a variety of complex clerical and accounting tasks for the Court Divisions of Civil, Criminal, Traffic and/or Probation as assigned. Performs data-entry of information regarding criminal, civil, probation, or traffic cases on the court’s computer system. Maintains information on the docket card and all case files. Schedules court dates and notifies all parties involved, coordinates the jury service as needed. Assigns cases to Judges, issues summons and arranges for process serving. Prepares abstracts of convictions for submission to the Secretary of State. Performs driving record and criminal history record checks using a computer terminal. Records, collects, returns and receipts payments at the court counter or those received by mail. Handles all fees and payments including; bail bonds, probation payments, traffic /criminal fines, and costs, civil fees, and restitution. Processes garnishment proceedings and assures appropriate notice distribution and scheduling is followed. Applies payments to correct accounts and disbursements, balances cash drawer and reviews receipts. Performs as court receptionist and telephone operator assisting defendants, attorneys, police officers and the general public concerning case information, status, disposition, court procedures and general court proceedings. Sorts and distributes mail as assigned. Processes various court-related letters and correspondence and documents. Will perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions: With or without accommodations, this employee must be capable of standing and sitting for long periods of time at a desk performing complex clerical duties in a busy office. Must have the physical capabilities for continuous operation of typewriter, computer terminals, copiers and other office equipment. Job requires the visual capacity to scan, read, proofread and correct court documents. Must have the verbal capabilities to communicate with the general public in person and over the telephone. Must have capabilities to climb ladders, (to retrieve files from shelves), stand, walk and carry various objects and weights usually less than 20 lbs.
Degree / Experience: High school graduate or equivalent education required. College education is helpful. Must have 1 to 2 years court, legal, or other related work experience. Prior court-related experience highly desired. Experience in handling currency and maintaining court or legal case files strongly desired. Knowledge of computer operating systems with a Windows format required. Excellent public relations skills a must. MUST BE ABLE TO PASS A CLERICAL SKILLS BATTERY OF TESTS. Must pass a criminal history/security clearance. If you claim any college credits, please provide a college transcript. Please provide a copy of your most recent performance appraisal.
