Training Section
Field Services Training/Corrections Training
The Training Unit is under the auspices of the Staff Services Section and consists of one supervisor and two training coordinators (one from Field Services and one from Corrections Services). Under this combined effort, the training section provides approximately 25,000 hours of training per year. Training provided to this agencys personnel as well as outside agencies includes firearms, two 160 hour Corrections Academies, C.P.R./First Aid, Mobile Field Force, Alcohol Enforcement, paramedic updates, defensive tactics and legal updates. This represents only a fraction of the types of training conducted and presented by the Training Section.
One of the major accomplishments of the Training Section is a grant funded regional pursuit driving program that is conducted at, and in conjunction with, Michigan Speedway. This affords trainees the opportunity to operate emergency vehicles at high speeds, utilizes proper driving techniques and focuses on developing good judgment skills associated with high speed emergency vehicle operations and pursuit related activities.
The Training Section operates on an annual budget of approximately $14,000 and is supplemented by state training grants in the neighborhood of $100,000.
